Cairns Artistic Skating Club has been operating in Cairns for over 10 years. We train every Saturday morning from 8 - 10am with other trainings during the week for competitive skates. All skaters are welcome, no matter what ability level.
So, what is Artistic Skating? Basically, Artistic Skating has 3 main disciplines:
Dance - where skaters learn a set pattern of steps usually to a tango, waltz or foxtrot beat.
Free skating - learn how to jump, spin, do spirals and other tricks which are choreographed into 2min routines set to music.
Figures - performing edges on figure 8 circles. A great way to develop correct skating technique which is used in all areas of Artistic Skating.
Our senior skaters have travelled to Brisbane to compete at the State and Prep-State Titles, winning medals and bringing home a 3rd place in the Prep-State division. Not bad for only 3 skaters from Cairns, who competed against 10 other clubs from around the State.
Inline Hockey is a fast and exciting game played in a similar fashion to Ice Hockey with a few key differences. The main one is that Inline Hockey is played on inline skates (or rollerblades) on surfaces such as concrete, timber or on tiled floors specifically made for hockey. The beauty of being on rollerblades is that you can practise anywhere, whether in your driveway or down at the beautiful Cairns Esplanade.
Inline Hockey can be played by five year olds up to eighty year olds and is played with 4 players and a goalie on the rink per team at any one time with at least 4 players on the bench involved in rotation with the on floor players every 2 minutes or so.
Inline Hockey is played in Cairns all year round, aligning with school terms. Regional, state and national competitions are often held during school holiday periods for all divisions.
Being played completely undercover, inline hockey is a sun safe and wet weather unaffected sport that suits the Cairns climate perfectly for both players and spectators. If you have never watched inline hockey being played before, be sure to check our calendar for upcoming competitions - you will certainly be on the edge of your seat as you watch the action!
